Local SEO, Sonoma, Marin, Napa, Solano

Local SEO that puts North Bay businesses in the 3-pack.

Local SEO is the discipline of getting your business found in Google's local pack for the cities your customers actually search from. Google Business Profile optimization, location-specific schema, neighborhood content, citation building, and review systems built to win Google's local pack for the city your customers are actually searching from. Built into every WSG website at no upcharge, or as a standalone engagement.

What local SEO actually is (and is not)

Local SEO is the practice of getting a business to appear in Google for searches with local intent, the "near me" queries, the city plus business type queries, and the local pack of three business listings Google shows on a map above the regular results. It is different from classic SEO because the ranking factors are different. Backlinks matter less. Proximity, Google Business Profile completeness, review velocity, and on-page location signals matter more.

It is also not "we will get you to rank for a single keyword." Local SEO is a system, you set up the foundations once, then keep feeding them with reviews, photos, posts, and content. The businesses that win the North Bay local pack are the ones running the system, not the ones who paid an agency for a one-time package.

The three signals Google uses for the local pack

Relevance: how well your business matches what the searcher is looking for. Driven by your Google Business Profile category, your services list, the keywords in your business name and description, and your on-page schema.

Distance: how close you are to the searcher. You cannot change this, but you can target the right service-area cities so Google knows you serve there.

Prominence: how well-known and trusted your business is. Driven by review count, review velocity, review content, citations across the web (Yelp, BBB, chamber sites, industry directories), and backlinks. This is the slow-compounding lever, and the one most agencies skip.

What we set up

Google Business Profile

Claim, verify, and fully optimize. Categories, services with prices, hours including holidays, photos, posts, products, FAQ, attributes. The single biggest local-pack lever, and most businesses leave half the fields blank.

On-page location schema

LocalBusiness or ProfessionalService schema with geo coordinates, areaServed (cities and counties), and the right business type. Plus per-city landing pages where the business actually serves more than one town.

Citation building

Yelp, BBB, Apple Maps, Bing Places, chamber of commerce listings, industry-specific directories. Consistent NAP (Name, Address, Phone) across all of them, because inconsistency is a top cause of poor local search.

Review acceleration

Post-service review request flow (one-tap link). We do not buy reviews. We make it trivial for happy customers to leave honest ones, because review velocity matters more than total review count.

Neighborhood content

Long-form pages for the specific neighborhoods, landmarks, and sub-cities you serve. Healdsburg Plaza, Bennett Valley, West End Petaluma, Mill Valley downtown, Yountville Washington Street. The pages that rank for local intent searches.

Local link building

Chamber memberships, sponsorships of local nonprofits and youth sports, partnerships with related local businesses. Slow-compounding, real-equity backlinks that aggregator sites cannot match.

How long until I see results?

Google Business Profile changes typically show up in search within 2 to 4 weeks. On-page schema changes get picked up within days but take a few weeks to reflect in rankings. Citation and review work compounds over 60 to 120 days. We do not promise rankings, because nobody honest does. We do promise to set up every technical foundation Google looks at, and to keep the system running so the slow-compounding levers actually compound.

What this costs

For new website builds, local SEO is included, no upcharge. For existing sites we audit and set up: typically $1,500 to $5,000 as a one-time engagement, depending on the scope (number of locations, current GBP state, citation cleanup needed). Ongoing optimization is part of monthly care plans ($75 to $300/month). See full pricing.

FAQs

Do I need Local SEO if I do not have a physical storefront?

Yes, if you serve a geographic area. Service-area businesses (plumbers, contractors, mobile services, real estate agents, agencies including us) can register a Google Business Profile as a Service Area Business and still rank in the local pack for the cities they serve, without publishing a physical address.

How is local SEO different from classic SEO?

Different ranking factors. Classic SEO is mostly about backlinks, content depth, and technical site health. Local SEO is mostly about Google Business Profile completeness, review velocity, proximity to the searcher, and on-page location signals. A business can rank well in classic SEO and still miss the local pack, and vice versa. We do both.

Will Yelp / Nextdoor / Angi traffic improve too?

Yes, indirectly. Consistent NAP citations across those platforms feed Google's confidence in your business identity, which helps the local pack. The reviews on those platforms can also be syndicated to your site with proper Review schema.

How important are Google reviews specifically?

Very. For most local searches, the local pack ranking correlates more strongly with recent review velocity than with total review count. A business with 30 reviews from the last 90 days often outranks one with 200 reviews mostly from three years ago. We set up post-service review request flows so the velocity stays high.

Can you guarantee a top-3 local pack ranking?

No. Anyone who guarantees specific rankings is either lying or paying for ads. What we guarantee is the technical foundation (GBP, schema, citations, NAP consistency, page speed, mobile experience), and the system to keep reviews and content flowing. The rest follows.

Is local SEO worth it for businesses outside the immediate North Bay?

If you serve a clear geographic area, yes. We mostly work in Sonoma, Marin, Napa, and Solano, but the same principles apply anywhere. Our value is the build and the system, not the geography.
