Why GBP matters more than your website (for local search)
For most local searches (anything with location intent, "near me" or "[business type] [city]"), Google shows three business listings at the top of the results in a map. That is the local 3-pack. Most local clicks happen there, not in the regular blue-link results below. Getting into the 3-pack is mostly driven by Google Business Profile signals, not your website's traditional SEO. A business with a great website and a half-completed GBP usually loses the 3-pack to a business with a basic website and a fully-optimized GBP.
The good news is GBP is free and the levers are clear. The bad news is most North Bay businesses we audit have left half the fields blank, picked the wrong primary category, never added their services with prices, never posted a single update, and have no system for asking happy customers to leave reviews. We fix all of that.
What we set up
Full GBP optimization
Claim and verify
Walking through the verification flow with you, video call or postcard depending on what Google offers. For service-area businesses we make sure your address stays hidden while your service-area cities still rank.
Primary and secondary categories
Up to 10 categories total. Primary is the biggest single ranking factor in your category, picked carefully. Secondaries expand the queries you appear for. Most businesses pick badly and leave 5 to 8 slots empty.
Services with prices
Every service you offer, listed with price or price range. Each one becomes a separate keyword target. Most businesses skip this entirely or list 2 services where they could have listed 15.
Photos and posts strategy
Real photos of work, team, and location (not stock). A monthly post cadence so Google sees ongoing activity. Photo and post recency is a real ranking signal that most competitors completely ignore.
FAQ and attributes
GBP has a built-in FAQ section and dozens of attributes (wheelchair access, payment methods, women-led, veteran-owned, etc.). Every relevant attribute filled out, every common question answered.
Review request flow
A one-tap review link (g.page/r/...) and a process for sending it to happy customers after every job. Review velocity matters more than total review count for local pack ranking.
What this costs
For new website builds, GBP setup is included, no upcharge. For existing businesses who just need GBP work: $500 to $1,500 as a one-time engagement depending on whether you already have a profile (and how broken it is) or need a fresh setup. Ongoing GBP management (monthly posts, photo refresh, review monitoring) is part of monthly care plans ($75 to $300/month). See full pricing.
What you do, what we do
You have to be the owner on the GBP, Google requires verification by the business owner. We work with you through the setup, then you grant us manager access so we can post, respond to reviews, and update services. You stay in control. We do the work.
FAQs
How long does verification take?
Video verification (when Google offers it) is typically same-day. Postcard verification takes 7 to 14 days. Phone or email verification is rare but instant when offered. We help you pick the fastest available option.
Can you create a GBP for me?
We help you set it up but you have to be the owner, Google requires the business owner to do the verification. Once verified, you grant us manager access and we handle the ongoing work.
My business does not have a public address. Can I still have a GBP?
Yes. Service-Area Businesses (mobile services, contractors, agencies, real estate agents) register with a hidden address and a list of cities they serve. We have set up many SAB profiles, including our own.
How long until I see local pack results?
GBP changes typically show up in search within 2 to 4 weeks. Movement into the local 3-pack for your target queries is more variable, usually 60 to 120 days depending on existing reviews, competition density, and how complete the rest of your local SEO is.
What about Yelp, Apple Maps, and Bing Places?
We set those up too as part of citation building. They are smaller channels than Google, but consistent NAP across all of them feeds Google's confidence in your business identity, which helps the 3-pack indirectly. See local SEO for the full picture.
Can you guarantee a 3-pack ranking?
No. Anyone who guarantees specific Google rankings is either lying or running paid ads. What we guarantee is full optimization of every lever GBP exposes, plus the systems (reviews, posts, photos) that keep your profile competitive over time. The rest follows.
